2020 Club Information

For the 2020 club volleyball season, we will be offering 13U, 14U & 15U boys club volleyball teams. 

Coaching staff for each team will be:

13U - Jeff Seekings (Head Coach), Jack Mandryk (Assistant Coach) & Adam Trudeau (Assistant Coach)

14U - Mitchell Dear (Head Coach) & Brandon Sutherland (Assistant Coach) & Kier Dear (Assistant Coach)

15U - Ryan Penner (Head Coach), Tristan Hodges (Assistant Coach) & Troy Kozun (Assistant Coach)

Club Coaches & Staff

Jim Schreyer

 

Jim has been coaching and giving camps in competitive and developmental volleyball for 36 years. As a head coach Jim has led teams to 5 National Championships in club volleyball, including 1 CIAU university gold medal as the head coach of the University of Manitoba Bison’s in 2000. Jim has also contributed as a head coach to 6 Provincial High School Championships with 11 finalist appearances.  Jim is a fully certified level three coach who in 2008  worked as an assistant with the Canadian Men’s Junior National team and traveled to India for the World Junior (21 and under) Volleyball championships. Jim was selected as the Coach of the Year by the Canadian Volleyball Assoc. in 2000 and the Manitoba Volleyball Assoc. In 1997/1999. Jim also was the Manitoba Volleyball Association Volunteer of the Year in 2009.  Jim was inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2013 and Sport Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2014 and this past year The MHSAA Hall of Fame. 

Jeff Scarcello - Mentor Coach

Jeff is the current Selkirk Royals Varsity Volleyball Coach who has led his teams to 23MHSAA Finalist finishes and 3 MHSAA Championships in the past 7 years. Jeff is a physical education teacher at Lord Selkirk Regional and has an extensive background as a player and coach in Manitoba. Jeff was a setter with the University of Winnipeg for three years and has been a midget Provincial Team Coach with VM in 2005 where they finished second at National Elites. This is Jeff’s 13th year coaching club volleyball in the Selkirk Royals Program and he has led the 16U Royals in 2008 & and 15U Royals in 2016 to VM Provincial Championships. He is a fully certified Level 2 coach. Jeff’s varsity boys are consistently one of the top ranked teams in the province.

Richard Hodges - Royals Accountant

 

Richard is a parent alumnus of Royals Volleyball, both High School and Club, both boys and girls with 3 AAAA volleyball championships to our family's credit. He believes that the Royals volleyball program provides a great opportunity for our kids to grow and develop not only in the sport but also in life. He is proud to be part of this organization and give back to a Club that has provided many worthwhile opportunities. He has been involved with organized sports coaching hockey and soccer, managing hockey and lacrosse teams and many volleyball and basketball canteens. His volleyball career consists of recreational playing and scorekeeping at the National Championships.

Ryan Penner - 15U Head Coach

 

Ryan played Royals Varsity Volleyball from 2003-2005 where he was chosen as a graduating all-star in 2005.  He played his 18U Juvenile volleyball as Libero with the Bison volleyball club. Ryan went on to be an assistant coach for the University of Manitoba Women’s volleyball team from 2006-2008. Ryan has coaching experience at the University, Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Provincial team level and is a fully certified Level 2 coach. Ryan was an assistant coach in 2016 with the Manitoba 18U Canada Summer Games team. He is currently the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity Royals. As a Royals coach Ryan has won 4 MHSAA provincial championships and 1 VM club provincial championship.

Brandon Sutherland - 14U Assistant Coach

 

Brandon is a Royals alumni who was team captain and MVP in the MHSAA High School Provincials in 2013. Brandon played two years on Manitoba Volleyball Provincial team and was a member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears after finishing his high school career. Brandon has been an assistant with the varsity boys in past seasons. Brandon is currently working on his Level 2 certification.

He head coached our 16U club team in 2016 to a National tier 2 silver medal, and our 13U club team in the spring of 2017. 

Mitchell Dear - 14U Head Coach
Mitchell played for the Royals Club Volleyball team from 2009-2012 as well as on the Selkirk Royals School team from 2011-2013. In 2013 he was a part of the MHSAA High School Provincial Championship team. During his volleyball career he mainly specialized as a setter, Mitchell has been coaching for 4 years and has now coached all ages from 13u-18u in both assistant and head coaching positions.
Tristan Hodges - 15U Assistant Coach

Tristan played for the Selkirk Royals in 2009-2012 as well as in the club program. He has attended the University of Manitoba, where he completed his Bachelor of Science Honors degree.  Tristan has helped coach many teams over the last five years including the Royals JV and the club programs.

Jack Mandryk - 13U Assistant Coach
Jack played for the Royals Volleyball Club for his 14U, 15U and 16U seasons. He played JV and varsity in Selkirk, won the High School Provincial Championship in his grade 12 year. Currently he is playing in his second year for the University of Manitoba Bisons Men's Volleyball team.

Troy Kozun - 15U Assistant Coach

 

Troy played volleyball in the Royals club system for 4 years from 2012-2015 and the school team for 3 years from 2014-2016. In his career he has primarily been right side and defensive replacement. In 2016 he was part of the team that won the MHSAA Varsity Volleyball Championship. Troy is currently working towards his Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of Manitoba.

Troy Kozun - 15U Assistant Coach

 

Troy played volleyball in the Royals club system for 4 years from 2012-2015 and the school team for 3 years from 2014-2016. In his career he has primarily been right side and defensive replacement.
